presented to
Stewart W. Snyder
III
Health Educator and Scuba Diving Director
CentraState Medical Center
A master scuba diving instructor with the Professional
Association of Diving Instructors and a Course Director
with the Handicapped Scuba Association International, Mr.
Snyder donates his time and skills teaching scuba diving
to special needs populations at CentraState Medical Center.
His classes are designed to be physically and mentally therapeutic
for children and adults with conditions that affect motor
and communication skills, such as autism, down syndrome,
multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy.
Stewart also works with severely wounded U.S. veterans
from Iraq and Afghanistan, giving these heroes a sense of
worth, ability, fun and purpose again.
Stewart explains that “Water gives us a freedom and
empowerment over our bodies that can’t be experienced
on land.” Scuba diving further improves the ability
to follow directions and to communicate. It also strengthens
social skills and builds self-confidence, which many children
never developed and some of the adults had long lost.
Stewart Snyder is an exceptional individual who volunteers
his time making people feel better about themselves, by
teaching them to accomplish what they thought was beyond
their capacity. He works to improve the quality of life
for those around him and, in the process, helps them to
live life to their fullest potential.
