“No Barriers USA FESTIVAL 2007”

Big Wave Dave and Kelsey Reidenbach of the DEMA Scuba Tours, Donna Jannine, of Adams Unlimited and myself had the opportunity to attend the “No Barriers USA FESTIVAL 2007, a five-day event, that was held in Squaw Valley, CA, June 28-July 2, 2007. The goal of this one-of-a-kind festival is to share the cutting-edge techniques and technologies, which enable people with challenges to live as actively as possible and break through their own personal barriers.

During the Technology Meets Physical Disability Symposium, researchers and scientists discussed the latest break through which are revolutionizing the lives of people with disabilities.

An Equipment Fair exhibited and demonstrated state-of-the-art adaptive equipment.
Interactive Clinics will be a highlight. Among the offerings are adaptive rock climbing, scuba diving, kayaking, cycling, mountain bike cycling, ropes course, Segway use, and hiking excursions – from easy to moderately difficult.

Speaker and Film Evening featured some of the world’s most accomplished modern-day pioneers and award-winning films.

Many opportunities existed for conversation and networking between scientists, technologists, manufacturers, therapists and users - people with disabilities.

The D.E.M.A. Scuba Tour Pool along with Sierra Diving Center of Reno, Nevada and Handicapped Scuba Association of New Jersey introduced over 175 disabled attendees to the sport of scuba diving.

Susan Rotchy, Ms Wheelchair California 2007 was on hand to take her first plunge into the underwater world.

While at the festival Big Wave Dave And myself held scuba classes for some of the Wounded Warriors who will be going to Bonaire for their check out dives and certifications.
